Stu Allen moved to the Bay Area in 2005 to join Melvin Seals and The JGB Band, of which he was the lead vocalist/guitarist for the next seven years. During this time he has become one of the leading figures in the jam band and Grateful Dead-inspired community, expressing his flavor of music through a variety of projects. He has fronted a number of Dead tribute acts, including a tour with the nationally touring Dark Star Orchestra. This path has culminated in the formation of his current project, Stu Allen and Mars Hotel, which was birthed hosting the weekly Grateful Dead Night at Ashkenaz in Berkeley, and now plays around the Northern California area. Stu regularly plays with Phil Lesh and Friends on tour and at the Grateful Dead bassist's Terrapin Crossroads. Stu also is a founding member of Phil's new band Communion.
